Food was called “rations” eg: canned beef/ bacon, cheese, bread, mustard, sugar/ pepper/ salt, gill, fresh vegetables (sometimes), jam.

Where DID THEY SLEEP?They slept in holes in the wall of the trench.
Bathroom?Toilets built behind the trenches. Deep pits with wooden seats on top. Older soldiers preferred to use wooden boxes with handles.

What Did the British and their Allies Wear?
*Coat. Made of goat skin called the “teddy bear.”
*Over Coat. Knee length worn by troops on horse back.
*Necklet. Silk lined collar, supposed to stop bullets.
Brodie. Steel helmet used 1916.

*Helmet. A helmet called pickelhaube “means” pointy hat. Invented 1842 by king fredride williom v in Persia. Helmets made of leather painted shiny black. Not bullet proof. 1916 soldiers got steel helmets.
*Belt. Engraved “god with us” on the buckle.
*Coat. Germans wore “great coats” kept them warm and dry.
INTERESTING FACT: The British stole coats off the corpses of dead Germans.
